Cornerback is a defensive position placed in front of the wide receiver on the front line.
When the wide receiver goes out for a pass, his job is to guard him and interfere with pass reception.
This position is the only position that is defensively out there by himself. The cornerback needs to have a variety of athletic skills. In fact it has been said that the cornerback is the best athlete on the field because his speed, size, and quickness and leaping ability.
